Hackney celebrates Newroz 2010

Local MP Meg Hillier, Mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe and our own De Beauvoir councillor Gulay Icoz led Local celebrations for the Kurdish New Year.

Held at Hackney Town Hall, people from all parts of Hackney - and quite a few from De Beauvoir - came together to mark the important time in the Kurdish calendar.

Daffodils on Culford Road

The first daffodils of Spring have flowered on the edges of the newly surfaced pavements on Culford Road.

Work began last month and was recently completed, allowing for new flower beds to surround the street trees.

Millions have now been invested improving local roads and pavements across Hackney, making them safer for people, cars and cyclists.

Young Hackney

YoungHackney asked young people in Hackney to send their ideas for a name for the new myplace centres and young people responded by sending hundreds of ideas. The judging panel has drawn up the shortlist - now it's time for you to vote for a winner.

The prize, £100 to spend on an activity, goes to the young person who suggested the name (there's no prize for voting, but YoungHackney wants young people to decide on the best option). The new name and brand will be launched in March.
