Walkabout with the Mayor

Mayor Jules Pipe joined Chris, Gulay and Rob on one of the regular walkabout surgeries.

Meeting residents on Lockner Estate, De Beauvoir Estate, Lawford Road, Ufton Road, Mortimer Road, Northchurch Road/Terrace and the Scolt Head, we took up issues from door to door recycling to the new road improvements on Culford and Tottenham Road.

If you have an issue you'd like taken up with councillors, get in touch.

Cleaning up De Beauvoir Estate

We've been in touch with Hackney Homes to have the parade of shops on De Beauvoir Estate tidied up.

Over the last week woodwork has been re-stained and street furniture repainted. Other works will be completed by the end of the month.

If there's somewhere you think needs cleaned up, get in touch with us and we'll do what we can.

New security doors for Hemsworth House

Hackney Homes is to install new security doors for residents in 26-37 Hemsworth House, Hobbs Place Estate.

Cartel Security Systems have won the contract to carry out the work following consultation on the designs with residents.

Residents have been supported by councillors in their call to have security improvements made and we are delighted the work has been approved.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us or Patricia Yearwood at Hackney Homes on 0208 356 4465.

Hobbs Place Estate repairs

Following the last walkabout surgery on the Hobbs Place Estate councillors have sought to deal with some issues raised by residents.

Emergency work will now be undertaken to make remedial repairs to 10 windows and balcony glass panels in the tower block and at Clinger Court.

Windows themselves will not be replaced as they are part of more general window replacement in July/August 2009.

In addition, graffiti located on walls next to the lock ups is to be removed this week.

£225 million more for homes in Hackney

Thousands of Hackney residents will benefit from a £225m funding injection, with the news that Hackney Homes has achieved a two-star rating from the Audit Commission.

The two-star rating frees up Government funding to spend on the Decent Homes programme, which means 7,000 households can now look forward to much needed new kitchens and bathrooms.

Already £190m has been spent on making Council homes decent in Hackney, with thousands of new windows, new roofs and other external improvements. The next phase of the programme, estimated to finish in 2012, will primarily focus on providing residents with new kitchens and bathrooms to meet the Government’s decent homes standard.

Our local Mayor, Jules Pipe, said: “Hackney Council has been working closely with Hackney Homes to improve services and raise standards, and I am delighted that residents are seeing the benefits of this partnership,”
